Pearl Cleage On When Someone Read Her Journal

From a Published Journal

January 23, 1972

“A journal is a very weird thing. I remember when Kris found part of my journal and read it, I felt really bad, but of course didn’t say anything to her about it. How can somebody read a journal that you have really put shit into that you don’t intend for other folks to read? When A.B. asked me what was in the folder and I said, ‘My Journal,’ I felt like I had been exposed in some kind of weird sex crime or something; like I had discovered my fly was open.”
